The Harrisburg Marathi Shala is managed and operated by a dedicated team of volunteers. Its primary mission is to preserve and promote the rich culture, values, heritage, and traditions of Maharashtra among the growing Marathi community in the Harrisburg area.
Currently, the Shala operates as part of the HARI school program. As a result, families must hold annual membership with HARI and Maharashtra Mandal (MMCPA) to enroll their students in the Shala.
The Harrisburg Marathi Shala follows the Marathi language curriculum developed by Bruhan Maharashtra Mandal of North America and approved by Bharati Vidyapeeth. Since October 2013, the Shala has operated under the umbrella of MMCPA. Established during the 2011–2012 academic year, the program has grown steadily and currently serves 19 students.
The Shala is committed to meeting the educational and cultural needs of the Marathi-speaking community in the Harrisburg region. It provides Marathi language instruction to younger generations while fostering an appreciation for Marathi culture and traditions. Students are introduced to various aspects of Maharashtrian heritage through cultural activities organized at the HARI Temple and during MMCPA events.
The program offers a structured learning pathway that enables students to progress through five levels of language proficiency. Over the years, students can complete all five levels and take the corresponding proficiency examinations to earn certification and demonstrate their mastery of the Marathi language.
